Balance Sheet

The balance sheet is a financial statement showing a company's assets, liabilities, and equity at a specific point in time. The fundamental equation: Assets = Liabilities + Equity. Assets are organized by liquidity (cash, accounts receivable, inventory, PP&E, intangibles). Liabilities by maturity (accounts payable, short-term debt, long-term debt, deferred liabilities). Equity includes common stock, retained earnings, and accumulated other comprehensive income. The balance sheet shows solvency (can the company meet long-term obligations?) and liquidity (can it meet short-term obligations?). Analyze trends quarter-over-quarter and compare ratios (current ratio, debt-to-equity) to industry benchmarks.
