Mining

Crypto & Blockchain

Cryptocurrency mining is the computational process of validating transactions and adding new blocks to a proof-of-work blockchain (Bitcoin, Dogecoin, others). Miners solve cryptographic puzzles using specialized hardware (ASIC chips for Bitcoin, GPUs historically for Ethereum pre-Merge). The first miner to solve receives the block reward (currently 3.125 BTC for Bitcoin) plus transaction fees. Mining requires enormous electricity — Bitcoin network consumes roughly the same energy as Argentina. Mining profitability depends on electricity costs, hardware efficiency, BTC price, and network difficulty (which adjusts every 2,016 blocks). Industrial mining now dominates; home mining is unprofitable for Bitcoin.
