Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) are unique digital tokens on a blockchain representing ownership of a specific asset — typically digital art, collectibles, in-game items, music, domain names, real estate. Unlike fungible cryptocurrencies (one BTC = another BTC), each NFT is distinct. Standards: ERC-721 (single NFTs), ERC-1155 (semi-fungible). 2021 NFT boom saw absurd prices ($69M for Beeple's 'Everydays') followed by 90%+ market decline. Useful applications: digital ownership verification, royalty enforcement (creators earn on secondary sales), gaming items, identity. Most NFT projects from 2021 have collapsed in value; the technology has long-term utility beyond the speculative bubble.
