Tangible assets are physical, touchable assets — buildings, equipment, machinery, vehicles, inventory, real estate, computer hardware. Distinguished from intangibles (brand, patents, goodwill). On the balance sheet, tangible assets are typically grouped as Property, Plant & Equipment (PP&E) with accumulated depreciation. Tangible Book Value (equity minus intangibles minus goodwill) provides a 'hard asset' valuation floor. Tangible asset-heavy businesses (manufacturers, REITs, airlines, miners) require ongoing capital investment to maintain. Tangible-light businesses (software, services) have lower capital requirements and often higher returns on capital but more competitive intensity.
