Credit Card Float

Credit card float is the interest-free period between when a credit card purchase posts and when you have to pay the statement balance — typically 21-55 days, depending on where the purchase fell in your billing cycle. Charging everything to a credit card paid in full monthly gives you free use of the money during that float period. Combined with cashback rewards (1-5%), this makes responsible credit card use mathematically superior to debit cards. The catch: missing even one full payment triggers retroactive interest on the float period in some cards (and always on cash advances). Discipline is everything.
