FICO Score

FICO Score is the credit score most US lenders use to decide whether to approve a loan and what interest rate to charge. It ranges from 300 to 850, calculated from your payment history (35%), credit utilization (30%), length of credit history (15%), credit mix (10%), and new credit inquiries (10%). Scores above 740 unlock the best mortgage rates; below 620 most lenders consider you subprime. You can pull your FICO free annually from each of the three bureaus via AnnualCreditReport.com. The fastest way to improve a low score is paying down credit card balances and making every payment on time.
