Seed Round

Business Finance

A seed round is an early startup financing round funding product development, initial team, and early market validation. Modern seed rounds: $500K-$5M, valuing companies at $5M-$25M. Sources: angel investors, seed VCs (First Round, Initialized, Y Combinator), accelerators, friends and family. Pre-seed (or 'angel round') even smaller, $50K-$500K. Seed funding extends runway to reach product-market fit milestones that unlock Series A. Typical dilution: 15-25% per round. Some founders bootstrap past seed entirely, retaining more ownership. Seed-to-Series A is the highest-failure transition; about 70% of seed-funded startups fail to raise Series A.
