Insurance

Auto insurance covers liability (damage you cause others), collision (damage to your car from accidents), comprehensive (theft, weather, fire, animals), uninsured motorist coverage, and medical payments. States require minimum liability ($25K-$100K typically). Smart minimums: 100/300/100 ($100K per person bodily injury, $300K per accident, $100K property damage). Below-market premiums often come from below-adequate coverage. Liability matters most — if you cause a serious accident, your assets are at risk. Older cars (under $5K value) often don't justify collision/comprehensive premium. Shop every 2-3 years; the same coverage can vary 50%+ across carriers.
