Earnings Per Share (EPS) is a company's net income divided by total outstanding shares — what each share would receive if all earnings were distributed. EPS is the most-watched profitability metric, reported quarterly. Diluted EPS includes the effect of stock options, warrants, and convertible securities. Year-over-year EPS growth is a key indicator of business health. Beating analyst EPS estimates ('earnings beat') often drives short-term price moves. Companies sometimes manipulate EPS through buybacks (reducing share count) or accounting choices — pair EPS analysis with cash flow and revenue metrics for a complete picture.
