Hot Wallet

A hot wallet is a cryptocurrency wallet connected to the internet — convenient for frequent transactions but exposed to online attacks. Examples: mobile wallets (MetaMask Mobile, Trust Wallet), browser extensions (MetaMask, Phantom), exchange accounts (Coinbase, Binance). Acceptable for small amounts and active trading; dangerous for life-savings holdings. Common attack vectors: phishing sites, malicious browser extensions, malware, SIM swap (taking over phone number to reset accounts). Use hardware wallets for serious holdings; treat hot wallets like cash in your pocket — only as much as you can afford to lose suddenly. Enable two-factor authentication (preferably hardware-based like Yubikey) on all crypto accounts.
