Crypto & Blockchain

A cryptocurrency wallet stores the private keys controlling access to your blockchain assets. Two main types: (1) Custodial wallets — exchange or service holds your keys (Coinbase, Binance accounts) — convenient but the exchange controls your funds; (2) Self-custodial wallets — you hold your keys (MetaMask, Trezor, Ledger). Self-custodial subdivides into: software wallets (apps on phone/desktop) and hardware wallets (offline devices for maximum security). 'Not your keys, not your coins' — major exchanges have failed (Mt. Gox 2014, FTX 2022) losing user funds. Hardware wallets are essential for serious holdings; software wallets are convenient for small amounts and active use.
