Overtime Pay Calculator
Work out weekly pay with time-and-a-half overtime, or annualize a schedule with regular overtime. FLSA 1.5× over 40 hours. Figures in USD.
The formula
Regular pay = rate × hours up to 40. Overtime = rate × 1.5 × hours over 40.
Example. At $25/hour for 48 hours: 40 regular hours = $1,000, plus 8 overtime hours at $37.50 = $300, for $1,300 that week.
Note: Federal overtime (FLSA) applies to non-exempt employees at 1.5× for hours over 40 in a workweek. Salaried exempt employees generally do not qualify, and some states (e.g. California) add daily overtime rules. Educational estimate only.
How overtime works
The Fair Labor Standards Act requires most hourly, non-exempt employees to be paid one-and-a-half times their regular rate for every hour worked beyond 40 in a single workweek. Overtime is calculated per workweek, not per pay period, so two 50-hour weeks are not the same as one 80-hour and one 20-hour week. Use Weekly pay to price a specific week, and Overtime rate & annual to project a schedule that regularly includes overtime into weekly and yearly totals.
